Tiny Roof Terrace in London

Our clients had a really small space off their kitchen and dining room in central London which they wanted refurbish and turn into a stylish and impactful outdoor space. As it is only nine square metres in total and could only fit a few people, the key objective was to create a stunning space to be viewed from inside the apartment and from the floor above.

With space at a premium, the solution was to create a cosy space which could be used by as many people as possible with at its centre piece a tall fireplace with deep planters on either side, planted with olive pillars.

On one side of the terrace is a run of long narrow planters to help hide the metal railings and on the other there is a fitted bench and pull-out stools to allow as many people as possible to sit out on the terrace on warm days. Above is a slatted timber screen which hides an unattractive metal wall behind with a dark grey mirrored insert which reflects the fireplace and the view across London.

The focal point is the gas operated fireplace in polished plaster finish with a set of antlers on the front fasade which are set into dramatic relief by the lighting after dark. The planting is simple and rhythmical so as not to distract from the clean lines and style of the hard landscaping.
