Project Under Development – Oxfordshire Landscape

In 2015 Charlotte Rowe Garden Design won a tender to design and create a large landscape around a new house being built outside Henley in Oxfordshire. The land on which the house is being built stretches to just under four acres and lies high up within an Area of Outstanding Beauty with spectacular views to the East over the Chilterns.

The new house will be of a contemporary design built around a large courtyard which will be a crucial element of the garden design. In addition, around the house and covered swimming pool there will be formal planting beds and lawn but much of the site will be allowed to remain as rough grass with mown paths leading down to a small garden house and a viewing area at the end of the site.

Some landforming will be carried out to create some gentle mounds and a more interesting landscape. As the house is positioned close to the boundary of the Southern side of the site, a ha ha and sunken fence will be built there instead of estate fencing.

The central courtyard will provide an outdoor room, sheltered from the winds which affect this elevated site, with two water features cut into a series of levels and platforms providing space for a dining area and a couple of sitting areas. Most of the hard landscaping will be polished concrete set off some gravel areas.

The house and garden will be under construction from late 2016.
